| whoa.. i haven't logged on to xanga in ages, and when i suddenly do so, the thing says that it's been 888 days since I joined! wow... let's celebrate!

| I don't know what's scarier now... climbing that "boulder" without a rope, or living life without my PDA.
In an attempt to fix something on my ChillAxim, I had to take it apart. By taking it apart, I had to disconnect the backup battery. By disconnecting the backup battery, ALL the stuff on the PDA was deleted.
Ah well.. at least I have internet and a "mobile"... I think I can survive until I get back to Vancouver...

In other news, wandered around Mong Kok on Tuesday and went to Ocean Park on Wednesday with Nat. A hot hot hot day with 20 minutes of wetness (rain!), along with noodles, Hagen Daaz, and SotB/Number1 made for a fun time. =D
Explored factory outlets with Goo Mah today at Kwun Tong, and I'll be off to have lunch with Cousin Wing and Jonathan tomorrow.
It's waaaay past my bedtime. Nite y'all.
| After so much rock climbing at the indoor gym, I always thought that I knew what it meant to experience danger. After tackling a 5.11-, I thought that I knew what it meant to conquer psychological doubts. After going ropeless on the "real" wall at Cliffhanger, I thought that I had truly captured the essence of climbing.
Today's climbing was only bouldering, I had thought. The word itself suggested heights that were inferior to what I had seen before, and images of cushy pads and solving tough boulder problems only a little bit off the ground came to my mind. Looking down though, I realized that a little bit off the ground had become almost five metres, and there was nothing to protect me except an inch thick of an old sofa cushion. I had just learned the Cantonese slang "yup chong " (to go to the factory) which referred to being carted off to the hospital. If I fell, it meant serious injuries. Falling wasn't an option.
Today's boulder wasn't a boulder. To me, it had surpassed the boundary between 'boulder' and 'real' route, and this was now considered free soloing. After some doubts and a few 'tricky' moves, I was able to make my way to the top.
Funny things raced through my mind as I methodically moved up the rock face. Not that I had much of a choice; five metres is a long way to fall.
I have to admit, it's not the most exciting story to tell, but there's an important moral: never leave your yellow Boreal Stingers at home!
| I received a call on my 'mobile' yesterday, and the caller was asking for a "Mr. Cheng" (in Cantonese). After a little bit of confusion, I realized that I was the "Mr. Cheng" the caller was looking for, and the caller introduced himself as a police officer. The dude just asked me a few questions about what happened a few days ago... doesn't look like the HK Government will be buying me an airline ticket to return to go to court or anything... too bad! | | |
| Yesterday was hanging out in Apliu St and bargaining for good deals again... gonna have to return next week with more money!
Today... went to visit Dr. Cheng (my uncle) and had lunch at a Thai restaurant... mm mm yummy! Then, wandered Mong Kok and Apliu... this time with Ed, and saw Spiderman 2.
The first Spiderman was better; although this one had good character development and stuff, the ending seemed to be hastily put together, and the 'happy ending' thing was kind of forced (unlike the first one). I won't describe it any further... I'm guessing most people haven't seen it yet.
It's past midnight.. my new bedtime! Good night.
